Lifter Of My Head

Psalm 3:3(KJV)

But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter of mine head.

In life we can get down, circumstances can weigh on us. Not just outside circumstances but we can get down on ourselves.

We can lose faith not just in ourselves but in others, which can cause doubt and despair to creep in our lives.

Psalm 3 begins with David thinking about all his troubles, overwhelming circumstances. David’s enemies were telling him that God could not help.

David looked to God, David had been down before, so David remembered that God was his shield, his protection, his glory, and Lifter Of Our Heads.

Lifter Of My Head – The one who lifts our Spirits, delivers us from shame, despair, and grief, and cause us to see brighter days ahead, even during hard times.

What can cause our heads to bow down?

1. Emotional and physical burden

Grief and stress makes us look down because of our struggles, instead of looking to God.

Grief and stress can leave us broken hearted, but God is near.

Psalm 34:18(NKJV)

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.

2. Defeat and Shame

We can have a loss of dignity because of how we have been treated by others or by our own personal failures.

So we can lose hope, courage, because of attacks by others or our own short comings can cause great disappointment and shame.

Isaiah 61:7(NKJV)

Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, and instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion.

The double portion applies to all believers who trade their spiritual shame, pain, or brokenness for God’s eternal joy, honor, and restoration.

3. Isolation

Problems and circumstances can become so overwhelming that we isolate ourselves.

We can feel like no one cares, we can think that even God doesn’t care.

Hopefully there are other people in our lives that we can talk, relatives or friends, a pastor or spiritual leader.

Having a professional licensed therapist can certainly help get us through tough times.

Even in isolation God is there.

Psalm 139:7(NKJV)

Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence?

God is everywhere, look to him and turn to Him.

What can God do?

1. God can cure discouragement

When life hurts so much, or we are face with heavy pressure, our natural reaction can be to look down, put our heads down.

Look to God, God lift our chin and we stop looking at our problems and look to God.

2. God can remove the Shame

Person failures and mistreatment by others can cause such guilt, defeat, and low self esteem.

God raises our heads and reminds us of our true value and dignity as his children.

3. God can Provides Protection

When we feel no ine cares and it seems like trouble is coming from every side, God will surround us so we do not fear because He is with us.

4. God can give us Vision

When our heads are down we can not see where we are going, God can lift our spirit and open our us, to see the great possibilities ahead of us .

Discouragement can set in because of troubles and circumstances and God can lift our heads and encourages us so we can see.

So turn to God, look to God, like the Psalmist said, God is the Lifter Of My Head, God can do the same for us.

Keep your head up!
