Proverbs 4:23(ERV)
Above all, be careful what you think because your thoughts control your life.
It’s amazing that every year we Americans spen $10.4 billion dollars annually into broader self improvement market. Mainly positive thinking resources.
On Self-help books we spend roughly $800 million for motivation and positive thinking.
When someone is positive about who they are, and believes in themselves some people call them arrogant.
I’m for motivation and self help, but thinking and feeling good about ourselves is where it starts.
Thoughts are powerful, they can create or deflate, our thoughts can frame our world and our words, our words can encourage or discourage others.
It is great to have people in our lives to encourage us and speak well of us, but we should be our biggest cheerleader.
Don Miguel Ruiz book “The Four Agreements”, the first agreement is:
“Be impeccable With Your Words” how we talk to ourselves and about ourselves and how we talk to and about others.
How we talk comes from how we think, so think we’ll of yourself and others, until others give you a reason not to.
These are important:
1. What do you think about yourself
2. What do you say about yourself
3. How do you feel about yourself
4. What do you think about others
5. What do you say about others
6. How do you feel about others
Psalms 139:14
I praise you, for i am fearfully and wonderfully made.
David said that about himself, do you think and talk talk about yourself that way.
French Philosopher Rene Descartes quote:
“I think, there I AM”.
I saw someone with a shirt on that read:
“I know I’m somebody, because God don’t make no junk”.
That’s not arrogance, that’s confidence in who you are and how God made you.
If you don’t believe in yourself or have confidence in yourself why should you expect anyone else.
Henry Ford quote:
“If you think you can or if you think you can’t you’re probably right”
You can and you will, be encouraged, we all have negative or pessimistic thoughts and feelings at times, the key is to catch them and rethink.
We were created by and in God’s image.
Genesis 1:27(ERV)
So God created humans in his own image. He created them to be like himself. He created them male and female.
So don’t just think well of others, think well of yourself.
$800 million in self-help books is not too bad! I think you know that I’m a strong supporter of these kinds of books because there is so much that we need to learn, and we can’t always sit down with knowledgeable people to answer all our questions.
I really like your theme. We definitely need to think well of ourselves, after all, like you said, we were created in the image of God. Christians are told to, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… and to love your neighbor as yourself.” Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, so it’s important for us to take care of our minds, bodies, and souls in order to love others and show the image of our glorious God.
