John 7:24(NLT)
Look beneath the surface so you can judge correctly.
Sometimes, we can just jump to conclusions based on a few people behavior.
Many people seem to have everything figured out.
All rich people aren’t evil, and all poor people aren’t good.
There are good democrats and good Republicans, good white people, and good black people.
That’s the same for all races and ethic groups.
Generalizing – Drawing a sweeping conclusion, using words like always, everybody, never, nobody, all those people.
I would always use those words until a friend of mind checked me on it, told me I should try never to generalize.
Generalizing can be based on a sample size or large size to support a claim, and both are inaccurate.
How did this post come into my head:
In the United States, the federal government may pause Snap benefits until the government shutdown is over.
Some people are upset about the possibility of that happening, and some are glad it will happen.
Someone sent me a text saying that the reason everyone is upset about losing these benefits is because they are selling their SNAP(Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program) which is put on EBT card, selling their benefits for cash.
I texted that person back and said that may be true for some but some people really need the help.
We shouldn’t let the needy suffer because of the greedy.
If the people complaining would give more to their local foodbanks or food distribution center financially or just volunteering, we may not need as much help from the government.
So we should try not to generalize people of any races, financial, or social demographics, there are good people and bad people everywhere.
It is true that some take advantage of government problems, but some really need help. The government can do better on identifying and cutting all waste in every area, not just the SNAP program.
In our personal giving and helping people, some may try to take advantage of us but some really appreciate our help, so we should never allow the bad people stop us from helping people who really need us.
