Psalm 61:1-2(NLT)
V. 1 O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayers.
V. 2 From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety.
We all have been there. Life can take a toll on anyone. It doesn’t mean that you are less than, it doesn’t mean that you like faith or strength, we all can get overwhelmed.
The Psalmist cried from the ends of the earth, from a low far away place because of circumstances and or troubles.
When there we should try not to linger in that place for too long without getting help, but there is not a time table on it, we all are different.
Things we can do when our heart is overwhelmed.
1. Pray or cry to God.
Seek God, get comfort from him, look to him for guidance and direction.
Lean on the faith and strength that comes from God, God can provide a peaceful refuge from the overwhelming circumstances of life.
2. Self Care.
Self care is not selfish, you can’t give from an empty vessel, you have to take care of yourself.
That’s why it’s good to have hobbies.
Doing acts of kindness helps me.
Volunteering at Shelter or foodbank is selfcare for me.
I love reading and writing.
It gets my mind off of my problems for a while and gives me a different perspective.
3. Get away, if you can
Many times, even Jesus got away to be alone.
Go on a vacation or just a long drive if you can.
4. Connect with others
Some people do better with others than being alone, whatever works for you.
Connecting can be in person or on social media, YouTubes, blogs, whatever helps you with positive connections.
5. Learn to manage your stress better
Some have said we should never stress, if you can do that great, but most of us stress.
Learn relaxation techniques and have physical activities. Go to the gym , go for walks, go to parks, go for hikes, experience nature.
Sometimes, simply getting out of the house will help.
6. Seek help from professionals if needed.
Having a professional to help talk you through things can help.
It can help you learn your triggers.
An overwhelmed heart can be harmful not just mentally and emotionally, but it can also can affect our physical health.
Pray to God for help, and cry out for guidance and direction.
God will help you, and God will show you things you can do to overcome and help others.
We may never perfect dealing with the stresses of life and becoming overwhelmed, but hopefully we can get better.
Some things happen in this life that are out of our control, but sometimes it is just us making better self care choices.
Peace
