John 8:31-32(NLT)
V. 31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teaching.
V. 32 “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
There is a false saying or belief:
“What you don’t know won’t hurt you.”
What you don’t know may cause some temporary relief in your life.
It may give you some temporary relief from anxiety or stress, but in the end, it will cause you more pain.
Some have said not knowing a spouse having an affair will save you some heartaches, but it will be worse in the end.
Many put off knowing medical problems for fear of stress and anxiety, but it will cause your health to be worse in the end.
We can overlook financial issues, but as in other things, they will come back to hunt you.
Freedom in Knowing:
1. Freedom in knowing who you are.
Self hate is a big thing. Not knowing who you are or whose you are can have so many negative consequences in your life.
Psalm 139:14
We are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Colossians 2:10
We are complete in him, who is head of all principalities and power.
Although we need each other, and we do not have to be alone, we have to find our identity in God.
people can take advantage of us if we do not now who we are and do not believe in ourselves.
Know who you are, believe in God, and believe in yourself.
2. Freedom in knowing your purpose
Purpose – A deep seated intention to achieve something meaningful and impactful.
It’s not just about personal goals but about how those goals connect to benefit something larger than oneself.
Proverbs 29:18
Where there is no vision, the people perish.
Knowledge of our purpose and having a vision is freedom, gives us freedom to live your life, and prosperity.
We should not worrying so much about what others think or say about you.
When we know our purpose, it eliminates comparing ourselves with others so much, we all can be guilty of it, but we can do better.
3. Freedom in knowing God lives in you.
1 John 4:4
Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.
God made us, God, live in us, and God is for us.
Romans 8:31
If God be for us, who can be against us.
4. Freedom in knowing who really provides for us.
Although we go to school, college, trade schools, we get jobs to provide for ourselves.
We realize that God is our ultimate provider, God opens doors for us and provides opportunities.
Philippians 4:19
My God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Knowing who we are brings freedom, knowing our purpose causes freedom, knowing God lives in us gives hope, knowing God provides helps relieves our stress.
Not knowing is bondage, but there is freedom in knowledge.
