Proverbs 4:25-27(Contemporary English Version)
V. 25 keep looking straight ahead, without turning aside.
V. 26 know where you are headed, and you will stay on solid ground.
V. 27. Don’t make a mistake by turning to the right or the left.
Staying Focused – The ability to maintain your attention on a specific task or goal while minimizing distractions and interruptions.
Staying focus doesn’t mean you are not concerned about anyone or anything else.
It means that you have a goal or task you must complete, and you are determined to complete it.
Some things happen in our lives that you may not have any control of:
1. Death – and unfortunate thing that we all have had to and will have to deal with, it may get us off track for a while, some longer than others, we never get over it but we normally get back on track, we help and support of friends and family.
2. Sickness or disease – Whether we ourselves are sick, family member or close friend, we may have to adjust and make life changes but prayerfully in time we get back on track.
3. Loss of job – There may be a time when we get untimely let go from a job, which may not be our fault, it may set us back but we eventually can bounce back.
4. Financial setbacks – Which may be the result of loss of job or some unexpected emergency or medical condition, but with the right support and smart decisions we can recover.
Some distractions we may have total control of:
1. Our relationships – If a relationship is getting us down or keeping us down, we can decide to move on, if it cause us to lose focus in who we are, what we are doing, and where we are going, we may have to disconnect.
That is never easy but in some cases may be necessary. You may not disconnect, but at least set some boundaries.
2. Our friendships – Unfortunately some friends may be a drain on you and where you are going. If you only give give and it’s never reciprocated from the other person or persons, it’s hard, but to get where you want to go, you may have to disconnect or at least set some major boundaries.
3. Family – Family is hard because it can make us feel guilty for communicating like we are expected to, but if it is constantly affecting our peace and state of mind, we certainly need to set boundaries.
4. Social Media – That is also hard for some of us, especially if our jobs or careers are tied to social media. But if we are constantly going in sites that bring us down or get us angry to the point of getting unfocused, we have to protect our peace.
If the sites cause us to do something to make a difference, that’s different.
A lot of times we just get angry and it messes up our day.
Sometimes on our own, and sometimes by events out of our control. We all get down or sidetracked but the key is to get back on track as soon as possible.
“Staying Focused”, it’s certainly not easy at times, but to be who we want to be, and to go where we want to go, it is a must.
So as our week starts, lets notice the things that causes us to lose focus or get sidetracked, especially if it is totally in our control.
3 John 2(NKJV)
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
