I Just Want To See Something

John 20:25(ERV)

So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said, “Unless see I the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe”.

Thomas is called by many believers and theologians as doubting Thomas.

Jesus never referred to Thomas as doubting Thomas, and neither did the disciples.

Jesus did say blessed are does who believe and haven’t seen, but Jesus never rebuked Thomas for asking.

Thomas was not there when Jesus originally revealed himself to his disciples, so when they told Thomas about the encounter he wanted proof, some may call him a pessimistic person, some may call him a skeptical person, but Thomas wanted proof.

Jesus never rebuked Thomas for asking, and Jesus actually met Thomas request, later Jesus actually said blessed are those who believe and haven’t seen, but Jesus never rebuked Thomas.

Now part of faith is believing without seeing, but a lot of that is because we have seen God do it before in our lives or read and heard about God doing it before in other peoples lives.

You can have faith and question God at the same time. All through the bible, those two mutual existed.

Asking God for proof is not a sign of weakness but a sign of this human experience we are in.

If you have never doubted or questioned God, then that’s awesome, but for some of us have gone through times of believing and believing without seeing and it was frustrating.

Jesus constantly dealt with questions from his disciples. They wondered about things, but Jesus never gave up on them, and Jesus will never give up on us.

Exodus 33:18(Message Bible)

Moses said, “Please. Let me see your glory.”

Moses was at a crossroads in his walk with God and leading God’s people, Moses and God were in an intense discussion in Exodus 33.

Moses ask God if you are with me, I want to see some proof, I want to see your glory, Moses was STUCK, Moses at that time needed some hope or evidence that God was with him.

Don’t be afraid or ashamed to ask God to show you some signs or a sign in areas of my life, I used to feel guilty about questioning or asking God, I thought that showed a like of faith or trust in God.

Like Thomas and Moses, sometimes I want some evidence.

James 4:2c

You have not because we ask not.

Doubting Thomas? No, he just wanted some evidence or proof.

If we believe without proof or evidence, that’s great, but sometimes I ask God to see some evidence that he is working.

What if we always tell others and ourselves that God is a provider, but he never provides.

What if we always tell others and ourselves that God is a healer but he never heals.

God also gives wisdom, discernment and all gifts comes from him.

James 1:5

If we lack wisdom, ask God who gives liberally.

God showed Abraham his future, God showed Moses the promised land, God showed Thomas where the nails were, if you want to see some proof, ask God.

So don’t feel ungodly or lacking faith if you asked God to show you some tangible proof, God is ready and willing.

  1. Excellent points, L.G. Interestingly, the series The Chosen gives Thomas a tragic loss, making him a very sincere but conflicted Jesus follower; Jesus understands that and does never rebukes him. Pure invention, but believable in its complexity.
