Matthew 22:39b
Love thy neighbor as thyself
Galatians 5:14b
Thy shall love thy neighbor as thyself.
Theologically, when more than one writer writes something, it’s a focus, out of the mouth of two or three witnesses.
So many times, we focus on the love they neighbor part of these verses, but we can’t really love our neighbors if we don’t love ourselves.
I believe one of the bigger problems in our society and world is self-love, if we don’t love ourselves, how can we really love others, if we don’t treat ourselves right how can we treat others right.
Self love has almost become a negative, we even have words to describe people who love themselves or confident in themselves
1. She’s full of herself
2. She thinks that she’s all that
3. He’s so arrogant
4. He’s so cocky
I was in the gym one day and saw a man with a shirt on that read; “I know I’m somebody because God don’t make no junk”.
In a world where we spend so much money on self help, building confidence, low self esteem, we can look down on confident people who really love themselves.
You can be confident and not arrogant. Maryanne Williamson has a concept, “Never shrink who you are to make others feel good about themselves”. “Let your light Shine”.
Be your greatest cheerleader, encourage others, but encourage yourself also, love others but love yourself just as much.
Remember God loves you, God is for you, and if God loves you, you have every right to love yourself.
So love your neighbor, AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF
