1 Peter 4:15
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evil doer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
2 Thessalonians 3:11
For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies
1 Timothy 5:13
And withal they learn to be idle, wandering from house to house, and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things they ought not.
The Apostle Paul puts busy body folks in the same category as murderers, evil doers, and thieves. I’m sure he is just trying to emphasize how wrong it is to be a busybody.
This fascination with other people’s lives has always been an issue with humans, especially celebrities and famous people.
Since this explosion of social media our fascination with other people’s business has exploded, we judge others for everything, how they live, how they dress, what they say, where they live, who are their friends etc.
Matthew 7:1-3
Judge not, and you shall not be judge.
It started with the first family.
Genesis 4
Genesis is known by theologians as the book or book of first mentions.
Adam and Eve had two sons, Cain and Abel. They both gave sacrifice to God, but Cain was so concerned about his brothers offering and reward that he killed him.
Not minding our own business can cause us to do harm or be harmed, we have looked at that story and concentrated on the offering part, but nothing would have happened if Cain had just mind his own business.
So many stories in the bible and our lives about taking care of our own lives, true we should help others, we should give advice and instruction but we should never be busy bodies, always concerned about how others are living.
Luke 10:38-42
Is the account of Jesus and his disciples at the home of Martha, her sister Mary was there, Martha could not enjoy the moment because she was so concerned about what her sister Mary was doing.
We need to do what we feel or believe God wants us to do and not be so concerned with others unless those others are doing harm to others.
Concerned about why some have so much and what they are doing with what they have, that’s between them and God. We, as believers, should do like Michael Jackson said, look at the man(person) in the mirror.
Some people are always complaining about what the pastor of a church is or is not doing.
Can the church and government be doing more, maybe, especially if we pay our taxes and offerings to the church and government, but at the end of the day, what are we doing.
John 21:20-22 Jesus had risen from the dead and revealed himself to his disciples again, and Peter asked about John. Jesus replied, “Mind Your Own Busine.””.
So, let’s begin to look more inward. True, we can’t avoid seeing the evil and oppression that is in the world, and we should do what we can to confront that.
If we’re so involved in other people’s lives, instead of caring for the poverty in the world or the oppressed, we may accomplish more.
But as it concerns other people’s everyday lives that’s their busy, we should, as much as possible, “Mind Our Own Business”.
In the end, God will judge us all, and it should start and end with ourselves.
Let’s be and do the best that we can. Let’s become the best version of ourselves and help others do the same.
Titus 3:3
At one time, we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived, and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.
Again, we should all fight against oppression, evil of any kind done to others.
And we are our brothers’ keeper, as long as it’s done in love and concerned but not hate.
We all can do better, myself included, i get too caught up in other people’s lives at times.
That’s my perspective. All wouldn’t agree, and I understand.
Let’s continue to pray for the families and people affected by the fires in California and all calamities in America and abroad.
