Reading The Room

We’ve all heard the phrase or concept called “Reading the Room”, means to enter a room or anywhere where there are a group of people and be able to read the atmosphere, to pick up attitudes, to notice verbal and nonverbal reactions, to see the needs and concerns of the people in the community.

To be able to adapt to situations, to know what to say and what not to say, its uncomfortable to hear someone speaking or commenting on a community or situation without even knowing the facts or trying to get the pulse of the area.

Mark 11:1(Message Bible)

He entered Jerusalem, then he entered the Temple. He looked around, taking it all in. But by now it was late, so he went back to Bethany with e Twelve.

Matthew 9:36(Message Bible)

When he looked out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep without no shepherd.

Reading The Room, Jesus began to “Read the Room” from the time he actually entered Jerusalem, Reading the Room also has to do with Reading the pulse of the community, noticing if people are being taken advantage of in our society, noticing if people are being manipulated, controlled, oppressed or mistreated in anyway.

Every city, every town, every village, every building, every Temple Jesus entered in he had a habit of “Reading the Room”.

Are we aware of our surroundings, when we walk in a room do we read the pulse of that room, or do we just blend in and go with the flow.

Jesus saw or sees the world as lost (needing direction), others saw or sees the world as lost (no hope for). how do we see our world, How do we read our world, hopeful or helpless, to me as long as we have life on this earth there is hope.

Peace
